According to reports, as of late the US Department of Justice has issued $809 million in fines, convicted 12 and coaxed guilty pleas from nine, all as part of a massive sweep of the nation’s automotive suppliers. Also according to the media, the DOJ’s investigation won’t stop anytime soon. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Scott Hammond said in a statement that the situation is “broader than what we’ve announced so far.” The investigation began in 2010 and has spread to Japan and Europe to investigate auto parts suppliers for price-fixing. Yazaki North America Inc., Denso International America Inc. and Tokai Rika Group North America were among the first to be investigated.
