Twenty-two companies, including three Chinese tire manufacturers and 19 importers and retailers, have been accused of patent infringement in a case before the US International Trade Commission. Reports say Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas Inc. filed the complaint, which is still under review by the accused companies, earlier this month. The companies now have until Wednesday, August 28 to respond; additionally, the ITC is reportedly open for comments on how relief requested by Toyo – which includes banning tires from the accused companies -would affect the US economy and consumers, as well as whether there would be domestic tire companies to replace the competition. In its complaint, Toyo lists eight patent designs the companies allegedly infringed.
