US: Date set for San Jose, MLB antitrust dispute case

A federal appeals court is set to hear a high-profile antitrust dispute between the city of San Jose and Major League Baseball in August, according to reports.

    Arguments will begin August 12 in San Jose’s lawsuit against the MLB regarding the move of the Oakland A’s team to a different stadium. San Jose argues that the MLB is in violation of antitrust law by refusing the A’s to relocate to another jurisdiction.

    An earlier ruling sided with the MLB in recognizing the league’s antitrust exemption.

    But the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals will hear San Jose’s appeal of the case. The Court filed an order Monday to establish the date for this summer despite requests by the city to fast track the case.
