US: DC taxi quarrel peaks with blockage of UberX service

The District of Columbia Taxi Commission has reportedly banned the UberX taxi service from operating in the nation’s capital, according to a blog post on UberX’s website, on accusations the company poses unfair competition to the city’s taxi services. The feud erupted with the company’s arrival in DC earlier this month. Reports say the DCTC will use EPA categories to determine which cars can officially operate as taxis in the city. UberX uses small and mid-sized automobiles for its taxi services.

The DCTC announced Monday that the regulations have been officially approved; the provisions define the term “sedan” and outline rules regarding taxi uniforms and color schemes.
