US: DOJ sues social media analytics company over unauthorized merger

The US Justice Department has filed a suit against Bazaarvoice Inc over the software and analytics company’s buyout its biggest competitor, PowerReviews Inc., which occurred last June without clearance from authorities. The Justice Department is also suing with allegations that the deal hampers competition. Both companies focus on using social media to promote their clients as well as specialize in damage control when clients receive bad press. In its lawsuit, the Justice Department has asked the courts to require that Bazaarvoice divest assets, thereby creating a new company to review PowerReviews and ensure ongoing competition.
