US: FTC announces forum on pharmaceutical competition

The US Federal Trade Commission announced Friday it plans to hold a public workshop next month to discuss the current state of competition within the pharmaceutical sector and how state regulation impacts the market.

    According to the FTC, the regulator is hearing concerns that recent state-level legislation could raise barriers for the development of lower-cost biologics, which are used to target difficult-to-treat diseases and represent the fastest growing aspect of the pharmaceutical industry.

    The workshop, to be held December 10 in Washington, D.C., will look at how state legislation has affected the market.
