US: FTC eyes menswear merger rivalry

While Men’s Wearhouse shot back at rival Jos. A. Bank Clothiers’ buyout offer with its own bid, reports say the Federal Trade Commission is now increasing its involvement in the feud.

    The FTC reportedly send Men’s Wearhouse a second request for information regarding its $1.6 billion counterbid. Reports say the extended review could signal competition issues soon to come.

    While the request does not officially signal any regulatory disapproval of the deal, reports note that it does counter earlier suggestions by the merger parties that the deal does not pose any competition risks whatsoever.
