US: House chairman introduces bill to curb excessive patent litigation

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va) has reportedly submitted a bill aimed at curbing abuse of patent litigation, legislation similar to his recent discussion draft on the matter.

    Reports say Goodlatte will seek legal reform of the current framework to require companies that sue for patent infringement to enter more detailed claims. The company would also be required to be ore transparent in their financial backing, say reports, and the litigator would be limited in the volume of documents it requires from defendants.

    According to patent reform advocates, the bill is similar to the discussion draft submitted last September.
