US: Intellectual property market braces for revolutionary online marketplace

As part of efforts to strengthen innovation, IP services firm Ocean Tomo has announced plans to launch an online marketplace to license patent rights. The website, to be called Intellectual Property Exchange International Inc. (IPXI), will be launched in the next few weeks as a for-profit platform to facilitate the trading of patent licenses. While reports say experts are skeptical about how successful the new marketplace can be, they are mulling its potential consequences, including reduced IP litigation. According to IPCI chief executive Gerard Pannekoek, the site will “ultimately drive innovation.”
