US: ITC steel dumping concerns as formal probe begins

In a unanimous vote, the US International Trade Commission agreed to launch a formal, in-depth investigation into complaints issued last month against foreign steel companies and their alleged dumping schemes, say reports. Nine US-based pipe manufacturers issued complaints claiming nine other nations are importing steel products at below-market pricing; the US firms believe the recent hike in US gas exploration could be a potential casualty to such dumping. In its preliminary investigation, the ITC reportedly found evidence to intensify its review of the claims, though its preliminary report will not be published until September. Domestic companies in the case, which are seeking to have taxes instated on the steel pipes, include Vallourec Star and a division of JMC Steel.
