US/Japan: Auto firms plead guilty in separate price-fixing cases

The Department of Justice announced Thursday that autoparts company Panasonic Corp. and its subsidiary have agreed to plead guilty in two separate car parts price-fixing cases, resulting in a combined $57.6 million fee. The DOJ found Japan-based Panasonic to have conspired to fix car parts prices, while its subsidiary SANYO was found to have colluded in battery cell prices. According to a press release, the DOJ continues to investigate the cylindrical lithium ion batter cell market for price-manipulation and other anticompetitive business practices.
