US: NCAA head set to testify in antitrust suit

    Reports say NCAA president Mark Emmert will testify in the lawsuit filed by former UCLA basketball player Ed O’Bannon regarding the compensation of college athletes. O’Bannon, who has been joined by other athletes, are suing the NCAA for price-fixing, claiming the association caps the amount of college scholarships awarded to players and gains profits from allowing players’ likeness and names in products like video games without compensating players.

    The news that Emmert would testify came just days after the plaintiffs said they are no longer seeking monetary damages in the case, instead deciding to simplify the process an have the trial focus on the NCAA and not each individual player’s damages.
