US: Republicans lay out net neutrality compromise

Next week there will be two net neutrality hearings and Republicans are laying out their own draft of the proposed bill. Senate Commerce Chairman John Thune said that Republicans are following eleven principles while crafting the bill. Requiring transparency, banning blocking, throttling and paid prioritization, and allowing for special services and reasonable network management are some of the principles they have listed and would apply to both wired and wireless networks.

The principles would also prevent the FCC from reclassifying broadband as a Title II service or creating new rules. The principles are a big compromise from Republicans who have mostly criticized Democrats for wanting net neutrality regulations at all. The hearings are both scheduled for next Wednesday.
