US: Senate antitrust panel reveals what’s next in the coming weeks

The new chairwoman for the Senate’s antitrust panel Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) has announced that transportation, communications and healthcare will be among the main focuses for the panel in the coming weeks. First on the agenda, according to reports, will be to review the proposed merger between US Airways and American Airlines, an $11 billion deal that would create the world’s largest airline. Additionally, Senator Klobuchar announced that the subcommittee will likely hold an oversight hearing to hear from the new head of the Justice Department antitrust division Bill Baer, as well as the recently-elected chairwoman of the Federal Trade Commission Edith Ramirez.
