US: Sloth-like pace of Southwest, AirTran union angers flyers

Three years into its union process, the merger of Southwest Airlines and AirTran is reportedly frustrating consumers as the combination has been anything but seamless. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, the company is experiencing an influx of complaints due to inconsistencies in seat availably information, reservation systems, booking difficulties and confusion over booking fees. Experts describe the merger as “fragmented.” According to computer consultant and frequent flyer John Sullivan, the airlines’ promise of “one airline” is a “broken promise.” Reports place some blame on Southwest Airlines’ dated computer systems.
