US: Supermarket sales look to appease FTC

Supermarket chain Albertson’s has reportedly divested stores in two cities in efforts to earn approval from the US Federal Trade Commission for its proposed buyout of United Supermarkets.

    According to a spokesperson for Albertson’s, the move was to comply with FTC conditions of the merger.

    The deal, first announced last September, fell under FTC watch over concerns it would hamper competition in certain markets. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed by the party.
