T-Mobile is looking for the Federal Communications Commission to place caps on the spectrum its largest rivals, Verizon and AT&T, can acquire at next year’s auction, but AT&T is now speaking out against its competitor for the proposals.
Reports say AT&T vice president of federal regulatory Joan Marsh published post on the company’s blog to speak out against T-Mobile’s suggestion of having “set-asides” that would set aside some spectrum for smaller competitors. Marsh called it “highly improbable” that giants AT&T and Verizon will “run the table” and make a spectrum grab so large that smaller rivals will not have their fare share.
Further, she argued, capping the amount of spectrum bidders can acquire and that “while this rule may appear non-discriminatory in theory, in practice it will likely act as an exclusion.”
The FCC has yet to decide on such rules in the upcoming auction.
