US: Trader Joe’s stuck in peanut butter pretzel feud

 |  January 26, 2014

Food retailer Trader Joe’s, along with ConAgra Foods, are being sued over a peanut butter-filled pretzel product, say reports.

Maxim Marketing Corporation is suing the companies for damages of $60 million, arguing that agreements to supply the product were canceled only for ConAgra to begin selling the same product itself. Maxim claims that its supplier was acquired by ConAgra in 2013, leading ConAgra to cancel the pretzel supply agreement with Maxim.

”Soon thereafter, ConAgra began selling the identical pretzels – down to the exact same bag – to Trader Joe’s,” Maxim CEO Terry Kroll said. Kroll is now suing Trader Joe’s and ConAgra in California for antitrust violations.
