Zambia: Fertilizer co slammed with fine for $20M cartel

Participants of a fertilizer cartel reports say worth more than $20 million have been slammed with a fine by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission worth five percent of each company’s annual turnover. According to reports, Omnia Fertiliser Zambia and Nyiombo Investments Limited were found guilty of participating in the cartel that the regulator calculates cost Zambian citizens $20 million. The companies were providing fertilizer to the government. The exact value of the fines was not disclosed.
