The tension over these tactics comes in the midst of a strong war for supremacy in one of the most important markets outside the US, with the Mexican market currently dominated by Walmart.
Two suppliers told Reuters that their brands would be withdrawn from Amazon so as not to affect their relationship with Walmart. The companies said that Walmart represents more than half of its sales in supermarkets in Mexico.
“We can never tell anyone that they can not sell to another person,” said Ignacio Caride, head of e-commerce at Walmart Mexico, but said the company will always seek to push for the best prices for their products.
