Colombia: Struggle over unfair business practices grows as supermarkets trade barbs
Colombian supermarket chains Justo & Bueno and D1 are engaged in an ongoing dispute over a lawsuit filed against D1 by its competitor, having denounced them before the country’s market regulator SIC over uncompetitive practices. Justo & Bueno claims D1 has pressured major suppliers to stop them dealing with them.
Justo & Bueno filed the suit against D1’s parent company, Koba, after receiving word from suppliers who confirmed that D1 had urged them not to sell their products with Justo & Bueno. The SIC has issued cautionary measures in favor of Justo & Bueno, forcing Koba to cease any hostilities towards suppliers and customers who work with their competitor.
In a recent twist, J&B attorney Jaime Granados has also filed new charges with the National Prosecution, claiming false testimony and fraud against two suppliers who have continued to refuse to deal with his client’s company, despite the SIC’s move.
