Martin Lapadeu, Attorney for the City of Buenos Aires, has requested an arrest order for two top executives of Uber’s local branch over their continued breach of regulations requiring the service to be suspended. Mr. Lapadeu went on to call for the car-sharing app to be banned throughout the country.
Judge María Fernanda Botana gave the motion the go-ahead, allowing ISP providers to block the company’s page and app access, as they consider there are “risks to the preservation of highly important evidence for the investigation” should the site continue to be open. The judge also issued orders for the arrest of Uber’s General Manager, Diego Mariano Oliveira, and the Executive Director of the Argentine branch, Mariano Otero, over their “complete omission of judicial mandates and continued illegal activities.”
The courts have recently accused Uber of engaging in tax-dodging schemes and money-laundering by attempting to bypass several fiscal controls, avoiding payment of some $341,000 USD. Back in September 2016 a court in BS allowed for raids to be carried out at Uber’s offices and the homes of several company executives, as well as drivers (known as ‘associates’ in company parlance).
