Korea led the way last year in antitrust fines, with China, Malaysia and Indonesia becoming more forceful in enforcing anti-trust violations.The fines from last year reached $1.7 billion for eastern Asia according to London law firm Norton Rose Fulbright, which monitors the competition regulations and courts in Asia.This sum is 45 percent higher than the annual averages of the past five years and 47 percent higher than the previous year. This massive increase shows that various Asian nations are cracking down on anti-competitive behaviour and are strengthening their laws to better deal with antitrust concerns, experts say.
Experts say a deal would face significant scrutiny from competition authorities.
