The Formula 1 racing association has now come under the radar of the European Commission for possible antitrust violations, reports say.
The dispute stems from one MEP Anneliese Dodds, who has reportedly received complaints that recent F1 business moves have put local engineering companies out of business. Further, reports say, the Commission is probing whether the International Automobile Association, the FIA, violated its antitrust agreement by acquiring a stake in F1 after agreeing to remain an independent governing body.
While the Commission initially denied to investigate the case, reports are now saying that the Commission’s head of sports, Krzysztof Kuik, has already met with F1 officials as pressure mounts for the Commission to launch an investigation into F1’s finances.
