Multinational: Hutchison, VimpelCom deal remains in limbo

Hong Kong-based telco giant Hutchison Whampoa and Amsterdam-based peer VimpelCom have reportedly failed so far to reach an agreement to merge their assets in Italy, say reports.

    Reports emerged earlier this year that the companies revived discussions to combine a wireless assets in Italy, a deal that would create the nation’s largest mobile operator by customers.

    A merger would join Hutchison’s 3 Italia with VimpelCom’s Wind.

    According to reports, the companies cannot agree on resulting ownership of the merged company. Hutchison is looking to secure a majority stake in the new company, while VimpelCom wants a 50/50 partnership in the new venture.
