Israel’s Antitrust Authority is reportedly supporting consumer involvement in pushing a pro-competition agenda as its Commissioner Professor David Gilo said he supports “organized boycotts” to fight unfair pricing practices.
Reports say Gilo spoke on Israel’s high cost of living and noted that while the Authority is looking to tackle the various causes for such costs – including monopolies and lack of competition – he supports consumer action to fight these obstacles.
”Organized boycotts are a welcome phenomenon that can curb the rise in prices,” he said. “Occasional boycotts are insufficient. Consumers must implement their personal boycotts every day; they must vote with their feet and compare competing prices.”
The remarks were made as Gilo spoke at a conference held by the Knesset Finance Committee, making a call for stronger antitrust regulation to combat the high cost of living.
