France: Competition authorities urge rethink of power pricing plans

    Reports say state-owned power firm EDF has been required since 2011 to sell one quarter of its energy to rivals because it holds a monopoly in nuclear power production. The sale of that power is part of EU guidelines.

    While government officials have reportedly drafted a decree on the price EDF can charge its competitors, the nation’s competition authority says that decree does not adequately address the need to phase out the current pricing system, which expires at the end of 2025, and establish a new pricing system.
