China/Germany: Germany calls for greater Chinese antitrust transparency

Germany’s ambassador to China spoke out on recent criticism of China’s antitrust practices, calling for Chinese regulators to increase transparency in their antimonopoly procedures, say reports.

    Germany’s Michael Clauss spoke Tuesday as Premier Li Keqiang began his European tour. Li is slated to head the German-Chinese government summit held in Berlin.

    Clauss reportedly warned that Chinese competition watchdogs must increase their transparency if they do not wish to risk a loss of foreign investment. He also warned authorities to abide more closely to the rule of law, according to reports.

    Similar concerns have been raised by authorities throughout the US and EU, though China has defended its practices as non-biased.
