Authorities in Taiwan are reportedly investigating product imports from Japan to probe whether any price-fixing has taken place.
Reports say Taiwan authorities first raised concerns about the imports because there has been no corresponding price cuts in Japanese products following the depreciation of the yen. After heavy criticism and claims that authorities are not doing enough to probe the matter, the FTC announced a formal investigation into a variety of Japanese products being imported into Taiwan.
According to reports, the FTC will investigate clothing, cars, cosmetics and several other industries with special attention paid to the largest Japanese importers.
The FTC said it would submit its findings within a month to the Legislation, but preliminary findings have not shown evidence of price-fixing or monopolization, according to reports.
