The International Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that it has met with Chinese competition authorities to discuss the implementation of an antitrust compliance program.
The ICC met with the nation’s Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, and State Administration for Industry and Commerce – the three watchdogs with competition enforcement powers – to present its global Antitrust Compliance Toolkit. The Chamber said all three regulators expressed positive interest in implementing the compliance program. “All three agencies are clearly aware of the challenges companies face to understand and identify compliance risks so they can mitigate these through robust internal controls,” the ICC said.
The toolkit was presented at a time when China’s competition enforcement of international companies has come under fire for allegations of bias and unfair favoritism of domestic firms. The toolkit, the ICC said, is the same toolkit presented to competition authorities from EU, Asia and elsewhere.
