China: Hitachi spared from antitrust fines

    China’s National Development and Reform Commission said Thursday that the Hitachi unit qualifies for leniency because it was the first of the companies investigated to approach regulators with evidence of anticompetitive behavior.

    The NDRC published the remarks in a statement online that was dated August 15, but only made public this week.

    Hitachi was under investigation along with several other foreign auto parts manufacturers for claims of price-fixing. The NDRC issued fines to several Japanese companies amounting to a record $201 million for the alleged collusion.
