As several states tackle Comcast’s proposed plans to acquire Time Warner Cable, reports say the states have expanded their investigations to include AT&T’s proposed takeover of DirecTV.
According to reports, about two dozen states are already working with the US Department of Justice to review the Comcast merger. Now, several of those states, including California and New York, are also investigating AT&T’s plans to acquire DirecTV for $48.5 billion.
Unnamed sources first approached news media with the reports.
Those sources said that while experts believe the AT&T deal will be approved, the states will examine the merger’s effect on the high-speed broadband innovation, programming costs, and other matters.
