The head of the US Federal Communications Commission spoke this week to address concerns of the nation’s broadband industry.”Users cannot respond easily by switching providers,” the regulator said. “As a result, even though there may be competition, the marketplace may not be offering consumers competition opportunities to change providers, especially once they’ve signed up with a provider in the first place.”
The four-point plan will aim to boost competition with its “concise, overriding principles” for the market, Wheeler said; that agenda includes protecting competition, encouraging competition, creating competition where it does not exist, and promoting the deployment of broadband where competition cannot exist.
