In efforts to educate the public on compliance to competition policy, the Competition Commission of India is reportedly set to establish clear, well-defined guidelines to facilitate adherence to the law.
According to reports, those guidelines will be put in the public domain to aid understanding to antitrust rules. “Compliance is like truth,” CCI Chairperson Ashok Chawla said at a recent workshop.
Reports say the Confederation of Indian Industry, which held the workshop on competition compliance, has provided regulators with a platform to educate the public on the matter. The plans will allow the CCI to warn that there are fines and penalties for breach of competition laws, among other risks.
Regulators also reportedly stressed the need for more understanding that each industry should be treated differently; some experts suggested India should consider incentives to competition compliance as well.
