US/UK: Merger reveals world’s largest jewelry chain

Top jewelry retailers Signet Jewelers and Zale Corporation have reportedly resolved discussions and agreed on a merger deal, creating the world’s largest player in the industry.

    UK-based Signet, the world’s largest specialty jewelry retailer, will acquire US-based Zale for $1.46 billion after several months of debate. According to reports, some Zale shareholders opposed the deal, delaying an agreement from being reached.

    Through the acquisition, Signet will operate more than 3,600 locations under several brand names in the US, Canada and the UK. The company said that Zale would retain its name, however, and operate as a separate division under Zale.
