NEC Corp has reportedly earned clearance to settle a longstanding lawsuit against the firm, accusing of fixing prices of optical-disc drives.
NEC has offered $6 million to settle the class action, which partially emerged following a 2010 suit filed by Acer and Gateway for similar allegations. The lawsuits accused NEC and other companies of forming a cartel to “fix, raise, stabilize and maintain prices” for the ODD computer part.
NEC was named as a defendant in the suit along with Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions, Samsung Electronics, Toshiba Corp, Pioneer Electronics, and others, reports say.
US District Judge Richard Seeborg granted preliminary clearance for the settlement, which, if finally approved, will bar the class from filing future antitrust claims against NEC.
