Spain: EU green lights food packaging merger

The European Commission announced Friday it has approved of US food packaging company Crown Holdings to acquire Spain-based food can manufacturer Mivisa Envases.

    Reports say the merger was conditional upon Crown divesting assets in Spain that also manufacturer food cans. Mivisa must divest some plants in the Netherlands as well, reports say.

    Among geographical markets under concern by the Commission included the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Luxembourg; the concessions are aimed at preventing any product price hikes in these regions.

    Financial details of the transaction were not reported.
