While official decisions have not yet been made, reports say Israel’s Ministry of Communications is looking to establish three 4G networks in the nation and allow for nearly unrestricted cooperation between operators regarding infrastructure.
Reports say 4G spectrum will likely be awarded to three operators; further, once the Communications authority officially decides on the allocation plans, reports say it will also make a decision to clear at least one of the pending mergers currently in the works.
Wireless operators Partner Communications and HOT Mobile are looking to merge, as are Pelephone Communications, Cellcom Israel and Golan Telecom.
The mergers would allow more operators access to the 4G spectrum.
The Antitrust Authority, however, still has the power to block either merger.
