US: Sabre remains friend of AA, foe of US Airways

Travel technology firm Sabre’s recent IPO announcement came with reminders about an antirust settlement reached with American Airlines, but even with past disagreements, reports say the recently-merged American Airlines will still use Sabre for ticket bookings.

    American Airlines and Sabre were engaged in a lawsuit regarding America’s efforts to bypass Sabre as a third party when consumers purchase tickets. A settlement was reached in 2012, but Sabre’s IPO filing suggests the company settled with American for $222 million.

    American Airlines recently merged with US Airways, which is in its own legal dispute with Sabre. Still, reports say the merged airline will continue to use the company for ticket booking.

    US Airways reportedly declined to comment on the matter.
