Kenya: German airline breaks longtime monopoly

Europe’s largest airline and Germany’s flag carrier Lufthansa will reportedly break a longstanding monopoly within Kenya as the company enters the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to launch a catering business.

    The Kenya Airport Authority awarded Lufthansa a concession for its subsidiary LSG Sky Chefs to break NAS’s monopoly on airline catering, which has been held since Kenya’s independence, say reports. NAS has reportedly joined with new partners in recent months to prepare for the coming competition.

    This will be Lufthansa’s fifth catering business in Africa, its largest being in South Africa.
