Australia: Oil production, exploration merger in the works

Australian-based oil producer Senex Energy Ltd. plans to possibly merge with oil explorer AWE Ltd., which operates in Australian shale fields as well as in Indonesia, two sources said.

    While the deal is in its early stages of negotiations and has yet to involve financial details, AWE announced late last week it received a merger proposal from an unidentified company.

    The parties declined to comment on the matter.
