South Korea: FTC considers fast-tracking Internet dominance abuse case

South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission is reportedly considering whether to launch its commitments decision process for its investigation into some of the nation’s largest Internet portal operators accused of abusing their market power.

    The companies, which have been under investigation since last May over the allegations, include NAVER Corp. and Daum Communications Corp. Both could benefit from the commitments decision process, which would allow the FTC to finalize the case without declaring illegality; it’s a move that could spare the companies from hefty fines, reports say.

    In a statement, the FTC said it would hold a meeting Wednesday to discuss whether to initialize the commitments decision process.
