Despite reaching a settlement with the US Department of Justice regarding their merger, American Airlines and US Airways are not entirely in the clear to go forward with their plans. According to reports, the airlines are facing private legal action from two San Francisco lawyers on behalf of consumers.
Reports say attorneys Joseph Alioto and David Cook filed the case for consumers claiming there is a legal 60-day waiting period requirement before the merger can official go ahead.
Alioto reportedly slammed the DOJ’s settlement with the airlines, reached last week, as an “embarrassment” and an “abdication” of the DOJ’s duties to American consumers.
The airlines are planning a hearing Wednesday to discuss how to proceed with the legal action.
