Canadian regulators have reportedly denied clearance of a merger between ailing wireless carrier Mobilicity and competitor Telus for a second time in a year.
Mobilicity is reportedly looking to sell its spectrum licenses to Telus, and despite the denial, a spokesperson for Mobilicity said the company is continuing to work with regulators over the issue.
Industry Minister James Moore confirmed the deal’s blockage Wednesday.
Mobilicity acquired the spectrum it is now looking to sell through a 2008 auction intended to help Telus rivals strengthen their position against the dominant carrier.
Regulators first blocked Telus’s buyout of Mobilicy last June, but subsequently cleared Telus’s buyout of smaller operator Public Mobile last week.
