Czech Republic: Spectrum auction challenged by Vodafone

The Czech unit of wireless giant Vodafone has reportedly filed a legal challenge against the government’s planned spectrum auction, claiming the auction unfairly favors a new market entrant.

    The company filed the challenge with both the nation’s competition authority the UOHS as well as the European Commission.

    Vodafone is the second operator to come out against the Czech Telecommunication Office’s 4G LTE spectrum auction. Earlier this month, competitor Telefonica OR CR filed a similar challenge against the regulator’s decision to reserve a block of spectrum for a new market competitor.

    The CTU approved all five bidders’ applications to participate in the auction earlier this month. The auction is planned for November 11.
