Prosecutors are pursuing warrants for six executives of construction firms for suspicion of colluding to rig bids for a controversial project to refurbish South Korea’s four main rivers.
The prosecutors from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office announced Wednesday the individuals are being sought in the case from four companies: Hyundai Construction & Engineering, GS Engineering & Construction, SK Engineering & Construction and Samsung C&T. The companies are accused of conspiring to rig bids for the first phase of the project, worth nearly $20 billion, that would construct dams along the rivers.
The project was highly controversial at the time of its launch, promoted by the former Lee government, for its effect on the environment and economic viability, say reports.
