Following the US Department of Justice’s investigation of a proposed joint venture between Cargill, CHS and ConAgra, several states with strong wheat cash crop economies have joined the case. According to reports, about 12 states joined the probe of a deal that would see the development of the nation’s largest flour mill to an even bigger state. Two sources told Reuters the states jointed the case and are lead by Oklahoma’s attorney general, though reports did not disclose the opinions of such states. The deal, which would result in a new company named Ardent Mills, is being investigated over competition concerns, as the venture would lead to a business controlling a third of US flour production capacity.
