Estonia: Regs suspect Latvia, Lithuania cos for distorted electricity competition

Estonia’s Ministry of Commerce, along with the Competition Authority, have announced a joint investigation to look into whether power trading companies within Latvia and Lithuania have distorted Estonia’s power market. Reports claim consumers have been paying higher prices than their counterparts in neighboring countries; now, regulators are looking into the causes of those price hikes after receiving claims that because Lithuania and Latvia are not selling their electricity supplies on the free market, Estonia must purchase that power on Lithuania and Latvia’s terms; experts say the two countries that neighbor Estonia to the south are experiencing a major shortage supply.
