UK: Coca-Cola wins sole control of beverage competitor

The Coca-Cola Company has won approval from the UK’s Office of Fair Trading to up its control of competitor Fresh Trading Limited from a minority shareholder to sole control of the beverage maker. Coca-Cola took its first bite out of Fresh Trading in March 2009, but upped its stake in the company to 60 percent the following ear. Coca-Cola and Fresh Trading first informed the OFT in early March of Coca-Cola’s plans to make a complete buyout of the company. The OFT approved of the deal after review of product promotion, geographical distribution and potential overlapping competition.
