UK: Local bus cos say OFT investigation preventing necessary overhauls

Local leaders of bus companies throughout the city of Redditch are accusing an Office of Fair Trading probe into the sector as the reason why crucial changes in bus services cannot occur. The OFT is currently investigating a $2.3 million acquisition by bus company Diamond of a fleet of buses from competitor First. Since the deal occurred last January, the competition regulator has received various consumer complaints of overcrowding and late pickups, though the bus bosses have argued that service improvements cannot be made until the OFT concludes its prove. According to reports, Diamond claims the company already had plans to modernize the buses’ infrastructure and staff, plans that must now be put on hold.
